I’m a director who believes in actors (people!) first. You can’t always count on having intricate lighting systems or state of the art projection, but you will certainly have actors and hopefully a live audience as well. High quality of expression, intricate behavior, expressive blocking, RELATIONSHIPS! These are the elements I believe touch people most deeply, and they are the foundation on which I build a theatrical experience. Every moment, every picture, all the tension, should come from an essentially human source. Everything else, sound, lights, set, These elements are there to enhance the efficacy of a story that is told LIVE by and for REAL people.

Theatre is entertainment! Just to pass time enjoyably is a worthy goal for a play, but entertainment can also serve a purpose. It can give us hope, or help us to consider a different way forward, it can inspire us to love, and teach us to forgive and grow. The best plays stay in your mind not just because they were cool or exciting or spectacular, but because they were cool exciting spectacular AND they touched something inside you.
